When asked whether diplomatic talks with Iran might resume, Trump said he did not particularly care and dismissed Iranian negotiators as untrustworthy. He also ruled out sending American ground troops into Iran for now, saying he would only consider that if Iran's leadership was completely removed or a firm agreement was reached.
Trump acknowledged that Iran had previously named him as a top target for retaliation, following earlier strikes that killed some Iranian leaders. He noted that Iran now has a new set of leaders, who might also eventually be removed, and reflected that he himself remains a prime target.
The remarks were made alongside senior US officials, including the Defense Secretary, Secretary of State, Treasury Secretary, and the US Ambassador to NATO, underlining the seriousness with which Washington is treating the escalation with Tehran.
